Teens and dating

What to look for in a boyfriend or girlfriend.

Be interested!

You can learn a lot about a person by watching. Not watching in a creepy, stalker way, but by being interested in them as a person.

If you genuinely interested and curious about another person, you can learn their likes, dislikes, personality traits, and get a sense of their character. Watch how they act with their friends, others and even adults. Pay attention how they respond in different situations.

For example, if they treat others with kindness and respect, kindness might be part of their character. There are lots of situations that you can observe them in like:

  • how they treat their friends
  • how they treat people who aren't their friends
  • how they interact with authority figures (parents, teachers, police, etc)
  • how they act when someone disagrees with them
  • how they act when they win or lose a game
  • how they act when they don't get their way

This is part of learning to date well!

Dating should be fun.

Learning about someone that you are interested is part of it. Once you have determined that you would like to get to know this person more, you can learn more about them by asking them questions.

We have put together some questions to ask your date that will help you get the ball rolling.

You can ask them while your talking over the phone or just hanging out.
